Disney’s Frozen The Musical has arrived in Singapore, its only Southeast Asian stop, and promises to captivate theater enthusiasts and young audiences alike until March 19, 2023, at the Sands Theatre in Marina Bay Sands. The musical portrays the story of two sisters, Elsa and Anna, with over 400 costumes, 120 custom-made pairs of shoes, and 90 handmade hats on stage. Elsa’s stunning dress, which features 14,000 beads and Swarovski crystals, took 60 days to make.
During the gala premiere, the young performers who shared the roles of Elsa and Anna kicked off the show with the energetic “Vuelie,” setting the tone for the rest of the production. Sarah O’Connor was exceptional as Anna, while Jemma Rix played the role of the Snow Queen of Arendelle, singing “Let It Go” with a great depth of emotion. Thomas Mcguane was captivating as the villainous Hans, and Matt Lee brought the beloved snowman, Olaf, to life with his multi-tasking skills.
The musical boasts 12 new songs in addition to the beloved tunes from the animated movie, along with a new backstory and characters that add depth and intrigue to the story. The child actresses who played the young Elsa and Anna in the opening act were simply adorable, and Sarah O’Connor’s portrayal of the adult Anna was both endearing and entertaining.
