Zhup Zhup by One Prawn & Co has created quite a buzz with its rebranding from One Prawn & Co, a Michelin Guide Singapore 2022 and 2023 Bib Gourmand awardee.

A Small Coffeeshop along Macpherson Road
The stall is equipped with numerous fans to combat the heat, however, it can still feel quite hot and humid, especially if you’re seated near the counter. The fans do their best to provide some relief, and the layout ensures that tables are not crammed together, allowing for a relatively comfortable dining experience.

Known for their signature prawn broth, Zhup Zhup promises an array of comfort food dishes that bring a new twist to traditional flavours. Here’s my take on some of their notable offerings and overall dining experience.

Tasting Platter (品尝拼盘)
The Tasting Platter offers a variety of small bites, with crispy prawn cracker (香脆虾饼), sotong youtiao, liver roll, ngoh hiang roll and more. The crispy prawn cracker was slightly greasy and had a bit of an oil smell, it surprisingly soaked up the soup nicely, absorbing the flavour. Overall, the tasting platter is just a decent choice for trying a bit of everything.

Lobster Pao Fan (龙虾泡饭)
The Lobster Pao Fan is a dish that is sure to impress. Served boiling hot with the broth still bubbling, this dish boasts a strong seafood taste and an incredibly rich and intense soup. The amount of lobster included is generous, and the ingredient-to-rice ratio is very satisfying. The broth’s depth of flavour makes this dish a must-try for seafood lovers.

Prawn Noodles (虾面)
The Prawn Noodles at Zhup Zhup are another highlight. The broth, similar to the Lobster Pao Fan, is robust and flavourful, making it a delight to slurp.

The noodles themselves are great, with a texture that complements the rich flavours of the soup. However, the prawns were decent and didn’t particularly stand out.

Har Cheong Gai (虾酱鸡)
Zhup Zhup’s Har Cheong Gai is crispy and well-marinated, offering a satisfying crunch with each bite. It’s a comforting dish that is above average and enjoyable, though it lacks the extraordinary ‘wow’ factor. It’s a solid choice for fans of prawn paste chicken, delivering on taste and texture without overpromising.
