Tucked away in Kensington Square, away from the heartlands. It is a quaint restaurant situated amongst condos and landed properties. If you’re expecting it to have premium prices, you’ll find out that you’re so wrong.
Priced affordably, you can be sure that there is a decent variety of Japanese dishes at this establishment. With a sleek interior and a huge variety of Japanese alcohol, you would know that you’re at the right place to enjoy your Japanese meal. Shifudo is a place meant to catch up with friends or to have a family meal in peace. With the prices here, you can be sure to enjoy the dishes without breaking the bank.
Shifudo Don ($14.90)
Coming by this affordable Japanese restaurant with their mainstay product being Shifudo don. Shifudo Don contains assorted seared marinated fish with sushi rice with a large amount of Japanese Tamago in it as well. The rice was a tad on the smaller side but it is value for money at the price you’re paying for it.
Iberico Pork Secreto Don ($18.90)
This dish was decent, with the pork being cooked just nice, you’ll find that the meat slices are cooked just right with the right amount of tenderness and juiciness. We were a bit worried about the meat as it turned out reddish but the chef assured us that it was meant to be like that. The pork slices did not taste raw, so we chomped down on it regardless, and there were no issues with our stomachs the next day.
Unagi Roll ($28)
Unagi sushi in a roll? Unagi always has a sweet spot in me as it is always nicely marinated and has a sweet taste to it. The unagi had a slightly fishy taste to it but it was so slight it was easily missed. There was even saffron added to the side as garnish if you’re a fan of saffron.
Shifudo
Overall, Shifudo provides quite affordable Japanese dining away from the crowds at the malls. If you’re looking for quality, they do have various ingredients that are premium and fresh which you may give a try. But for the other dishes, they tend to be generally just decent and are there to satisfy your cravings at an affordable price. They are better than average but aren’t exactly the standard that you’d be wowed by and consistently keep coming back for more. Do give them a try if you’re in the area or look out for Cheval if you’re in the mood for Western.
