French cuisine tends to be highly priced in SIngapore and yet Saveur stands out by being able to serve great French cuisine at affordable prices.

Tucked away at the corner of Bugis, Savuer is a casual French dining establishment just a short walk away along Purvis Street.

Saveur had a very chill and laid back ambiance within, much like a casual diner you’d go for quick family meals.

The service was fast and the food arrived quickly as well and the dishes were also plated simple and affordable.

The Confit de Canard, or duck leg confit as it is otherwise known, was a great combination of duck leg confit, mashed potatoes, sauteed mushrooms, oranges and red wine sauce.

The meat of the duck confit was moist and tender, coming off the bones easily and was a pleasure to eat.

The soft sauteed mushrooms and the sweet oranges also blended well with the red wine sauce giving the duck meat an interesting contrast of flavours to behold.

Another well known dish that we tried was Saveur’s very own angel hair pasta topped with truffle and nori butter and toasted sakura ebi shrimps.

Whilst the angel hair pasta was cooked al dente, the pasta seemed lackluster in comparison to the duck leg confit.

Perhaps it might have been the red wine sauce from the duck confit that seems to make the pasta feel a little lacking.

The truffle fries were decent, with a large amount of fries provided though the truffle taste was not as evenly distributed as we would have preferred.

The fries could have been fried slightly longer to give it a crisp that would go well with the truffle and act as a contrast in mouthfeel compared to the main dishes.

Perhaps if it was to have a little truffle oil or more evenly distributed truffle bits it would have been better.

Overall, if you want French cuisine without the hefty price tag, Saveur is sure to satisfy your cravings. Their duck leg confit is amazingly well thought out and goes really well as a dish. The angel hair pasta seemed lackluster though the pasta was well cooked.

There are many other dishes that you may try there ranging from appetisers, soups, mains and even desserts. Being authentic and affordable, it is worth a visit to see if you’re a fan of French cuisine to say the least.
