Located in the heart of Chinatown lies this eatery, beloved by many Singaporeans, it’s a favoured place to dine at for meals and for supper. Being a traditional Chinese diner, you can expect to find a large range of Chinese dishes here including barbeque skewers!

Assorted Dishes
An assortment of dishes we ordered as we came in. Do come in a group as larger groups have the ability to purchase a larger variety of dishes so that you may share and try more dishes as well.

Shredded Spicy Tofu
Starting off with the shredded spicy tofu skin, which is a cold dish that really gets your appetite going with a light spice and the chewy tofu mixed with vegetables. We recommend getting this dish to start with if you’ve never had it before.

Fried Lala with Ginger and Scallion
Lala with ginger and scallion? This dish was really good, the lala were really sweet and fresh, we polished off the whole dish really quickly and the amount of lala given for the price is really value for money too. If you noticed, the whole plate was really filled with lala and they were all open too! The only thing that could have been better was that the dish didn’t arrive hot, but came by warm, probably due to how busy the staff are that the food was left at the counter for a while before being brought over and the really strong aircon.

Gong Bao Chicken
Back to the staples, we have Gong Bao Chicken, a classical Chinese dish that everyone likes! The gong bao chicken here was a little different from what we’re used to as it was a tad sweet compared to the usual salty one, but it was tasty just the same.

Water Spinach with Minced Garlic
Every meal needs some form of vegetables right? For the price (less than $10), this is a great deal of vegetables! With the amount of vegetables given it could have probably fed easily 4-5 pax with just this plate. Having such a big plate of vegetables is sure to be a great way to have a balanced meal with your family easily.

Assorted Skewers
Lastly, we can’t forget the skewers, can we? The skewers come with lots of different options. We ordered mainly the meat skewers but vegetables, mushrooms and seafood are also available to order as skewers! The skewers are a tad more expensive compared to the dishes so watch the price if you’re on a budget and wish to order some skewers as well.
Oriental Chinese Restaurant (东方美食饭店)
Overall, this is a really good choice to have Chinese dishes at, especially if you’re really hungry as the dishes are inexpensive and the portion size is huge. The dishes are only huge for the dishes and not the individual items like seafood and skewers etc so do note if you’re here to order with a budget. As with most Chinese places, the food is meant to eat with rice as they tend to be more on the saltier side so do remember to order some white rice to go with your food!
