Korean BBQ is a hot choice for food in Singapore, with many stores lining the main Korean food district of Singapore, Tanjong Pagar. Amongst them, Obba BBQ is well known for providing great quality cuts as well as amazing service.
Started in 2012 by CEO Jae Kyoung Han and team, they were a group of Koreans that were passionate about bringing the best Korean taste to Singapore. Believing in the voice of the customer, they are very receptive to feedback and strive to always improve and grow.
Starting with this as an appetiser, we had a great start to our meal together with the large variety of banchan. The steamed egg was soft and moist, being really fluffy on the inside. It helped to tingle our taste buds with something light and gentle, readying it for the heavier dishes to come.
This dish, also called Jumekbap, was a simple dish made by just mixing rice balls with a few basic ingredients. They were mainly rice, radish, seaweed, flying fish roe and sesame seeds. When ordered, it’ll come in a bowl with all the ingredients and you will be provided gloves to mix and shape the rice balls yourself.
Whilst being a simple dish, the seasoned rice tasted amazing when mixed with all the ingredients. The rice ball actually acted great when eating spicy food as it helps to reduce the residual lingering spice in your mouth.
Being a basic kimchi stew dish provided for with the set, the taste was alright but wasn’t something special to specifically come down to try. With the stew packed full of a large variety of ingredients, it was worth having the kimchi stew though you might also want to try the other stews available.
Being a staple Korean food, they also had rose tteokbokki which was really nice and different from the usual tteokbokki. With a nice milky gochujang base, they had long strands of tteok with a really creamy taste. With sausages, eggs, and cheese as a topping, it was smoky and spicy whilst being sweet at the same time. It’s great for sharing but would probably be an overkill for a small group of 1 or 2 pax.
With the beef set, we got a selection of cuts, ranging from traditional marinated beef, beef ribeye, marinated beef short rib and prime beef short rib. With two marinated beef cuts and two normal beef cuts, they allowed us to get a taste of the quality provided at Obba BBQ.
The meat had nice marblings and the meat was cut into easy to eat portions. With a charred outer layer, the insides still had the melt in your mouth texture, leaving you happy and satisfied with the food there.
We also ordered their sliced pork belly as Obba BBQ was known for their thick sliced pork belly cuts. While it was a little oily, It was of the right thickness. It was crispy on the outer layer whilst maintaining a juicy and moist interior, a magnificent combination indeed.
The meat was great to go with the large variety of sides available. The food was actually cooked by the staff who came by to help cook the beef til a nice medium rare. They were then set aside for us to take as we just sat back and enjoyed our meal.
We had the different meat wrapped in lettuce with the Korean spicy sauce together with grilled garlic. The grilled garlic acted as a great flavour enhancer when paired with the different variety of meat.

Obba BBQ
Obba BBQ is a place with amazing service, having staff to pamper you and help you cook whilst you just focus on the conversations with friends and enjoying your meal. If you’re in the area, do drop by and give their beef as well as sliced pork belly a try. The flying fish roe rice is also amazing to try and would be great as a side that pairs well with your BBQ meat. Do come by early as the queue can get quite huge to avoid having to wait too long for this.
