Lao Fu Zi Fried Kway Teow, affectionately named after the famous Hong Kong comic character, is a Char Kway Teow haven with over three decades of history, owned and run by the talented Mdm Kuah.

As you approach the stall, you’ll spot a pair of “Lau Fu Zi” or Old Master Q figurines at the entrance – a thoughtful touch from her friend as a holiday souvenir. Mdm Kuah honed her Kway Teow frying skills from her master, who once owned a stall at the Old Airport Road. Eventually, she decided to venture out on her own.

The dish boasts a harmonious blend of flavors without being overly greasy. Its consistency leans towards the drier side, a characteristic that may appeal to some while not as much to others, depending on individual preferences.

One noticeable point is the subtle wok-hei, though it’s not as pronounced as some may prefer. It’s worth mentioning that pork lard isn’t used by default unless requested.
