DOPA Creamery – Indulge in a Creamy, Nutty Adventure

Dopa Creamery is a gelateria that prides itself for focusing on nut-based products. Located centrally at Tanjong Pagar, it has a sister outlet, Dopa Dopa Creamery at Clarke Quay. Whether you’re a lover of rich and creamy nutty flavors or a fan of something a little more exotic, Dopa has got you covered.

Dopa Creamery did not have a large variety of flavours, with only 10 flavours available. Amongst the 10 flavours, there were four specific nut based ones being hazelnut, pistachio, macadamia and maple pecan.

The creamery was decked out in a minimalistic colour scheme that seemed to blend in. With steps for you to sit and chill at instead of tables and chairs.

Their servings are given from tubs that were covered, different from the usual ice cream bars that have it fully on display. It was of a similar concept to how the gelato shops in Italy would have stored their gelato.

Dopa Creamery Mandarin Sorbet and Coconut Pandan

Mandarin Sorbet and Coconut Pandan ($9)
We ordered several flavours to try, with this being the mandarin sorbet and coconut pandan. The coconut pandan had a light coconut aroma and a strong pandan taste within. The pandan flavour lingers in your mouth after trying this flavour. The mandarin sorbet on the other hand was light and refreshing, being both sweet and tangy at the same time. It reminded us a little of the ice yuzu dessert drink that beauty in the pot usually serves after each meal.

Hazelnut ($6)
We had to give the nut based gelato a try since it’s known for the nuts, so we had hazelnut and pistachio flavours. The hazelnut was light and creamy and had a balanced hazelnut taste that did not overpower the other flavours. The pistachio on the other hand felt a little lacking and could have been stronger as it seems to be overshadowed by the other flavours we tried.

Dopa Creamery Ferrero

Ferrero ($6)
The ferrero flavour was interesting as you could taste the strong chocolate taste and the taste of the biscuits that usually goes with the ferrero. The taste was intense and quite sweet as it seemed to overpower most of the other gelato flavours at Dopa Creamery.

DOPA Creamery

The gelato at Dopa Creamery are smooth and light giving it a great texture as a dessert after having a filling meal. The notable flavour that was interesting was in fact not the nut based flavours but rather the mandarin sorbet. Being refreshing with a light sweetness and tanginess to it, it made us feel refreshed and energised.

We came by during the late afternoon and there were already quite a number of people here. Being one of the quality gelato creameries at Tanjong Pagar, it would be no surprise if it was even more crowded at night after dinner time. If you’re looking for a more family friendly ice cream shop that kids would like, you may wish to check out Roji Monster as well at Tanjong Pagar.
