Chik Soo Korean Kitchen is a Korean dining restaurant at Oasis Terrace in Punggol. Located at the Oasis LRT, it serves both Korean set menus as well as a Korean army stew and BBQ buffet.

Being a small shop in the mall, it has tables ranging from 2-6 pax and has quite affordable set menu items. We were there to try the buffet since it was lunch and the price for the lunch buffet was quite cheap.

Buffet Menu
The lunch and dinner buffet differs by the availability of the dishes with the dinner buffet having 2 additional items, sliced fish and fresh prawns. The premium meat is an optional add on if you wish to have beef, and as for drinks, the buffet comes with ice tea or Korean barley tea.

Army Stew Pot and BBQ Grill
The army stew pot and BBQ grill came as a two in one unit that was fired by the standard gas stove commonly used for mookata. The grill was quite wide and the pot was quite deep, however we encountered an issue. The main issue was that the flame was a little small and only half the grill was hot enough to be cooking fast at any point in time.

BBQ Meat
We ordered a little of every meat, with the being only chicken, pork slices and pork belly, we ordered variations of the different flavours as well. The marinated meat were better than the original which we felt was a little too plain to taste. The galbi flavour was preferred compared to the spicy as the spicy seemed to be a little one dimensional in taste, with not much taste other than the spiciness.

BBQ Lettuce
We also ordered the lettuce to go along with the meat, which was fortunate as it added freshness and a different texture to the meat as we went along with the meal.

Army Stew Ingredients
For the army stew, we went with a load of the standard ingredients like crab stick, ham, and hot dogs to fill the soup. As we went during lunch, we couldn’t add prawns to sweeten the soup though we would recommend you to do that if you’re going for dinner.

Army Stew Mushrooms
We also added in mushrooms, enoki, tang hoon as well as ramen noodles as staple dishes to change the texture and the flavour of the army stew as well.

Chick Soo Korean Kitchen Banchan and Sauces

Banchan and Sauces
The banchan was kimchi and pickled radish and they were both on the sour side. Whilst they still went well with the meat and lettuce, if eaten alone, the tanginess could be tasted quite strongly.

There were four main sauces provided, sambal chilli, pancake chilli, soy sauce and sesame oil. For the meat, the soy sauce and sesame oil ones seem to be better for it and we were given ssamjang sauce upon request as well.

Army Stew and BBQ in Action
The army stew was actually on the disappointing side as the soup was a little too bland and lacked a more flavourful soup stock as a base. If the soup had a proper stronger tasting soup stock as a base, the flavour of the army stew could have been stronger. A tasty army stew would have complemented the BBQ meat better and might have changed the whole experience dining there.

Chik Soo Korean Kitchen

Whilst the food was decent and had nothing special, the staff was respectful and quick to service. We would recommend getting more of the marinated meat to get the most of your meal. For the army stew, if it’s convenient, bringing a stock cube or two to just throw it in would really enhance the meal experience greatly.

If you’re in the Punggol area and don’t wish to travel far, Chik Soo is a place you can consider for a quick buffet meal to satisfy your cravings. Don’t go expecting the best quality here as the overall buffet experience is just passable and isn’t something that seemed that special.
