The National Library Board is opening Singapore’s first manga library at City Square Mall as a “Grab-n-Go” totally self-service pop-up. Customers can borrow from a sizable library of 5,000 manga books starting on February 20 for the following six months, read digital manga on e-Reads displays, and learn more about Singapore’s vibrant comics scene at the exhibition area. The Japanese publisher Shogakukan Asia has given a number of manga books to the library, including well-known works like Dragon Ball Z and Pokémon Adventures RGB. A showcase wall with donated local comics from local comic book enthusiasts will also highlight Singapore’s unique comic culture. Also, the library will contain an interactive Mr. Kiasu robot concierge who can recommend books and give simple Grab-n-Go usage instructions.
