The iconic solitary cow on Coney Island is no longer there, however, there are still plenty of things to see on this rustic island in the North-East of Singapore. The island is very easily accessible from Punggol Central – with no passports or ferries required. If you want to experience being away from Singapore without leaving the country, Coney Island is an excellent place to visit.

Things to do in Coney Island
1. Start at Punggol Point Park

Coney Island was once known as Haw Par Island, because the Haw Par brother owned this island. However, it is now called Coney Island, Serangoon Island or Pulau Serangoon. Punggol Point Park is the easiest way to get across to Coney Island Park. This island is uninhabited, hence you are recommended to rent a bike to tour around the island.
2. Photo taking at the famous Coney Island Gate

You might have seen such a photo on your social media feed. The two famous and iconic Coney Island gates are located at the East and West bridges of Coney Island. It is merely 500m away from Punggol Settlement and Punggol Point Park from the West Entrance. The East Entrance connects to Lorong Halus and Pasir Ris Industrial Drive 6.
3. Cruise along cycling routes

One of the best ways to tour around and explore the island is by cycling. Get started with your cycling trip by bringing your own bicycle or renting a bicycle from the Bike Rental Shop at the Punggol Settlement. Cycle along the 2.5km Coney Island Park Connector and enjoyed the view of Serangoon Reservoir. Although there are proper cycling routes, it can get bumpy at times, but it is still a windy and enjoyable experience.
4. Hang out at the beach

There are five beaches labelled Beach Area A to E. I personally recommend Area C and E for a more enjoyable experience. These sandy beaches are vastly different from East Coast Park and Sentosa; they don’t offer clear and pristine shores.
5. Hit the obstacle course

The Casuarina Exploratory Nature Playground is constructed from the timber of uprooted casuarina trees and other recycled materials. Challenge your balance across a wooden bridge, or jump over stepping stones. Spend your time at this environmentally-friendly hangout with or without kids!
6. Spot wildlife and bird-watching

Monkeys, birds, squirrels and butterflies make Coney Island their home in Singapore. If you walk or cycle along the coastal trails, you’ll find bird-watching huts where watchers or photographers stake out at, to capture moments of rare species of birds on the island. Keep a look out for the melodies of magpie-robin or enjoy the parakeets soaring across the forest canopies.
7. Explore the nearby Punggol Waterway Park

If you have extra time on your hand, head by Punggol Waterway Park to discover the neighbourhood. Enjoy the waterfront views and relax by the benches as you watch people doing recreational activities or exercising at the park. If you’re lucky you may catch the occasional kungfu master training at the park as well.

Coney Island

If you haven’t visited the trails of Coney Island, take this as an opportunity to visit this island. Even if you have visited this island before, you might still find areas that you have missed the previous adventure. Kent Ridge Park or Singapore Botanic Garden might be other adventures you can take one.
