Noodle Star K is a restaurant known for specialising in Korean noodle dishes. It’s a sister restaurant of Super Star K, the KBBQ restaurant that’s been around since 2004. Located along Tanjong Pagar Road, it is one of the many Korean restaurants that line the street and draws the crowd who’re all looking for Korean cuisine.

As a stalwart in the Korean food industry, it’s normal to have to queue up for a meal in this restaurant. Outfitted with two floors, you’ll find the restaurant to be well spaced out with lots of room to navigate within. The queue moves quite fast as the staff are really efficient, keeping the crowd constantly moving so you don’t have to wait too long.

They provided us with three different banchan. The bean sprouts were nothing to shout about, being normal and we didn’t touch it much. The kimchi was good, with a tad of spice and sourness to go along nicely with it. The radish was also nicely pickled, leaving it with a tangy and crunchy but savoury bite. The kimchi and pickled radish paired really well with the noodles and we requested refills several times.

While they looked unassuming, these cups of liquid were not drinks, but actually the beef broth soup that was used to cook. If you order naengmyeon, you’ll be able to get these beef broth drinks complimentary! The beef broth was rich and savoury, whilst also not being too strong to be considered salty. Based on the menu, they did mention that you can request for up to two cups of beef broth with every order of the naengmyeon.

Featuring their signature dishes, we ordered naengmyeon at Noodle Star K. As we were fans of their potato starch noodles, we ordered their Bibim Naengmyeon and their Mul Naengmyeon.

The Bibim Naengmyeon consisted of thin potato starch noodles mixed with a spicy dressing made of gochujang sauce, vinegar dressing, sesame oil and sesame seeds sprinkled over it. The spice had a kick to it and is not for people who’re unable to take spice. For a more layman description of the taste, it tasted similar to bibimbap in noodle form. It paired really well with the kimchi as it helps provide a distinct taste that’s different to the rest.

The Mul Naengmyeon was our favourite with it being filled with a chilled broth that was light and cooling, providing a good respite from the heat of Singapore. We added a little more vinegar and mustard to tune the taste of the broth to our choice. The light sweet and sour flavour of the stock really went well with the noodles and was a throwback to Korea.

The noodles were given in really long strands and we used the scissors provided to cut them into shorter strands. The noodles were chewy, providing a nice mouthfeel to it as you have them with the broth. The pickled radish went really well with this dish, the tangy taste of the radish serving to amplify the clear clean taste of the broth to provide a different taste to the dish. The dish also contained really sweet pears within that gave us a surprise when we were having the dish.

As we were craving Korean street food, we added a side of dokbukki as well. The dokbukki could have been cooked a little longer and the sauce could have been thicker. The dish was decent for us with a decent mixture of dok and fishcake.

The naengmyeon here were fantastic, with the awesome beef broth to go along with it. The banchan also went really well with the naengmyeon and felt good as a whole. As for the ambience, the restaurant was a little noisy as most tables were talking over each other and the walls seemed to amplify the sound. Majority of the people dining here came in pairs with a few larger groups. If you’re craving Korean noodle dishes, especially naengmyeon, do drop by here!
